What’s been happening on the farm in August 2020?

current tree planting

While we’ve all been getting a drenching at home, there are still things going on at the farm during August 2020. Rach has been splitting herbs and planting currents (as you can see in our featured image) and the animals keep going with the flow.

We’re now delivering organic vegetable boxes to well over 100 local families. Fortunately the entire farm team have been great to adapt and deliver right across the Mornington Peninsula.

It’s the right time of year to be growing seedlings from the greenhouse. Ours is absolutely chockers now. In fact, we’ve been very successful with our tomato seedlings, and so we can expect quite a few during summer! Asaparagus, artichoke and kale have also been performing very strongly. Soon we’ll be trying out some watermelon.

It’s a race to harden off as many plants as we can, so that we can keep them all alive, and outside if required. As you can see, there’s not much space left on our shelves in the greenhouse so we have started moving the bigger and hardier plants outside (into a protected area) and will keep trying to move them along the process as best we can. We are looking at a second greenhouse too. This weekend has been a challenge with the cold and windy weather, but by the end of the week we should have much kinder weather.

Lockdown and August 2020 has been a bit of a wild ride, with orders flooding in from across the community. We feel incredibly lucky to receive such fantastic support and fortunate that had already been delivering to so many people and didn’t have to learn a whole new logistics system!

Receiving wonderful feedback also makes us feel great, and we hope that if you’re receiving our boxes of veg, that you’re enjoying them 🙂
