Our one off organic vegetable box contains fresh, locally grown, organic produce. Some of your produce will have been harvested from our farm directly. Some will be from other farmers in the area. All of the produce is grown within 80km of our farm. We’ve put together this box to make it easier for you to eat awesome food from local producers every week!
What is a One Off Organic Vegetable Box?
It’s a once off box, rather than a subscription, to see if you like what’s in our weekly or fortnightly organic vegetable boxes. You might also purchase our one off veggie box if you are here on holidays, or buying one for family. Orders for the trial box must be in by Sunday evening for the upcoming Friday/Saturday, otherwise your box will be available the following week.
What will be in my box?
Your box contains 6 different types of organic vegetables for the regular and 9 different types of vegetables for the large. In fact, your organic vegetables were likely harvested the morning before your pickup. Eating seasonally is important when supporting local farmers, and the veggies in your box will change every week. Veggies can only be grown at certain times of the year, so seasonal eating means your veggies are fresher but there aren’t tomatoes in winter (or bananas, ever).
Is everything in my box organic?
Yes! Most of our produce is certified organic. Some is grown organically, but not certified. We don’t put conventional veg in our boxes. No exceptions. No confusion. Organic only.
How many people does my box feed?
It depends how much you eat! Our regular sized organic vegetable box is perfect for a couple, or high-veg eating single. Our large sized organic vegetable box contains enough for a family or high-veg eating couple. We also have a few people/families who like to share between themselves.
Why is my One Off Box More Expensive Than The Subscription?
Two reasons. One is to cover the extra admin and coordination costs of an unplanned for box- we plant and coordinate with other farmers for our subscription boxes, and can’t do that for a one of box, when most veggies take 3 months to grow. The second reason is because all of our one off boxes are community boxes.
What’s the difference between a standard box and a community box?
A community box has the same organic veg, in the same quantities as our standard box. The extra 10% you pay goes straight to putting food on the tables of people who can’t afford it.
We say ‘straight’ because we donate all of the overheads (power, transport and distribution) as well as our time. Your contribution does nothing but buy the freshest, organic food. Why have we made it 10%? Did you know that 10% of people living on the Mornington Peninsula live below the poverty line? We believe in feeding our community- all of it. And that means people who are struggling too.
I’m zero/low waste
Great! Our boxes are too! There’s never plastic in your box. We love when people return rubber bands to us and the farmers for reuse. And if you have vegetable scraps at the end of the week bring them back to the farm to be add to our community compost, and help us grow more veg. The plastic crate your veggies come in is reusable and must be returned each week. 🙂
